The BBC reported that its chairman, Samir Shah, sent a personal letter to the White House, expressing his and the organization’s apology for editing scenes of the speech delivered before some of his supporters stormed the US Capitol, according to the BBC. The organization indicated that there are no plans to rebroadcast the documentary, which combined two parts of Trump’s speech separated by nearly an hour.
Caroline Levitt, the White House Press Secretary, stated last Wednesday that Trump considers the BBC a ‘leftist propaganda machine’ funded by British citizens. According to the Press Secretary, a lawsuit has been filed against the BBC, and the decision for the organization to apologize to Trump for ‘fabricating’ his public statements ‘rests solely with them.’
The Telegraph reported that the organization distorted Trump’s speech in January 2021, implying that he encouraged the riots at the Capitol (Congress). Trump described the organization’s journalists as ‘corrupt’ and its administration as ‘dishonest.’ Trump later stated that he was forced to sue the organization for distorting his speech.
