In statements to the “STV” television channel, Volvovich said, “Having this conversation (with Trump), most likely under the current circumstances, will not have a significant impact on Belarus. We hope, apart from restoring our country’s status in the eyes of the West, that it will be satisfactory. Of course, they were not pleased. We see how the leadership of the West, especially Western politicians, is affected by painful reactions, unfortunately, to issues of halting or suspending military operations as part of the special military operation. They are not interested in this matter.

Volvovich noted that the conversation between the Presidents of Belarus and the United States was a complete surprise, especially for the ‘worried opposition in the West, and the neighbors – the Poles and the Baltic states.’ He confirmed that Belarus, too, has taken an important step to stop military operations in Ukraine.

He continued, “I believe what happened in Alaska was an important step taken by America, the Russian Federation, and Belarus. Belarus always seeks to stop military operations on Ukrainian territory in the near future.”

Last Friday, Russian and American Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump met in Alaska. The leaders’ meeting was held at the “Elmendorf-Richardson” military base. The talks were conducted in a “trilateral” format and lasted two hours and 45 minutes. Also participating in the meeting from the Russian side were Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov. From the American side, Foreign Minister Marco Rubio and the Special Representative of the American President Steve Whitcov attended.
