This refusal reflects a new decline in Brazilian-Israeli relations following Brazil’s announcement last February of its intention to join the lawsuit led by South Africa before the International Court of Justice, in which Israel is accused of committing acts in the Gaza Strip.
It is noteworthy that the crisis between the two countries erupted last February when Lula da Silva made comparisons to Nazi crimes, prompting Israel to declare Lula a “persona non grata” and summon the Brazilian ambassador for consultations.
