Brazil’s Supreme Court Restricts Bolsonaro

The Supreme Court judge in Brazil, Alexandre de Moraes, stated in his decision that “the former president did not comply with the judicial restraining orders imposed on him last month.” Judge Moraes also prohibited Bolsonaro from receiving visitors, except for lawyers and persons authorized by the court, and from using a mobile phone either directly or through a third party.

A press representative for Bolsonaro confirmed the seizure of his mobile phone at his home, while the federal police stated they complied with Supreme Court orders to impose house arrest and seize the mobile phone, without mentioning the name of the person targeted by the operation.

In November 2024, the Brazilian federal police charged Bolsonaro and former officials with attempting to overthrow the democratic system by organizing a coup. The case is now awaiting a decision from the Supreme Court, with the former president facing a potential prison sentence.
