During a meeting with the British Foreign Minister, David Lammy, in southern England, he stated that he does not know the meaning of actual recognition ‘due to the absence of an effective government there,’ according to him.
Britain has taken a firmer stance towards Israel, announcing its intention to recognize a Palestinian state, alongside France and Canada, to pressure Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, according to Western media.
When asked about Britain’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state, Vance replied that the United States and Britain share a common goal to resolve the crisis in the Middle East. He said, ‘Britain and America may differ on how to address the crisis in Gaza, but they share a common goal to resolve it.’
The visit of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance to Britain comes amid growing interest in Vance’s views on foreign policy, as he emerges as a key figure in President Donald Trump’s administration and a potential successor.
It is worth mentioning that last month, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that Britain would recognize Palestine at the UN General Assembly next September unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in Gaza and takes steps to end the dire situation in the region.
Earlier, the French President announced that he had decided to officially recognize the State of Palestine at the upcoming UN General Assembly in September. Macron stated in a post on his ‘X’ platform account: ‘In fulfillment of its historic commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, France has decided to recognize the State of Palestine.’
