In a statement to ‘Al Arabiya Al Hadath’ on Sunday, Abdel Aaty explained that Cairo is facing a smear campaign against its role in supporting the Palestinian cause, aimed at diverting attention from the crimes of the occupation. He pointed out that there is Arab coordination to establish a regional security system that ensures the interests of Arab states and protects Arab national security.
The Egyptian minister affirmed Cairo’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause since the Nakba until today, striving for a fair political solution through a two-state solution, and rejecting any military solutions for the region’s crises. He mentioned that the situation in Gaza is catastrophic and requires international action, revealing that the Rafah crossing is open from the Egyptian side 24 hours a day, but it is closed from the occupation side.
Badr Abdel Aaty stated: ’70 percent of the aid that entered Gaza since October 7, 2023, was Egyptian.’ He also explained that the lack of a truce is due to the absence of political will on the part of the occupation to reach a comprehensive agreement that includes a ceasefire, the entry of aid, and the release of hostages. He confirmed that Egyptian intelligence is making strenuous efforts in this direction.
In response to a question about protests in front of embassies abroad, Abdel Aaty accused those behind them of being connected to the Muslim Brotherhood (classified in Egypt as a terrorist organization) in a manner that serves the interests of the occupation. He also denied any illegal migration boats have left Egypt since 2016. The minister concluded by affirming the strength of Egyptian-American relations and the importance of Egypt’s regional role for Washington.
