The Canadian Minister of State for International Development, Randeep Sarai, stated in an official statement on the Canadian government website: “Canada is deeply concerned about the dire situation in Gaza, where the number of civilian casualties is increasing due to famine.” Sarai warned that any new military escalation would lead to a “greater humanitarian catastrophe,” emphasizing that aid access has become “impossible” for many vulnerable groups. The Canadian minister called for the immediate and unrestricted flow of aid, asserting that “famine can be stopped if there is the will to deliver aid safely and swiftly.”

He also praised the efforts of UN and humanitarian organizations facing “avoidable obstacles,” highlighting Canada’s continued support through airdrops, logistics, and increased funding for organizations capable of providing aid.

The United Nations Integrated Food Security Phase Classification issued a statement today, Saturday, declaring that it is officially in a state of “catastrophic famine.” Jeremy Laurence, spokesperson for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, stated that “Israeli authorities must take immediate action to end the famine in Gaza and allow all humanitarian aid access.”

The official confirmed that the famine is a “direct result of deliberate actions by Israel,” describing the use of starvation as a tool of war as a “war crime.”
