Deepika Padukone is currently experiencing setbacks with high-profile film projects.

Earlier reports this year indicated she was replaced in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, and now she’s officially out of the sequel to Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD.

The production company Vyjayanthi Movies announced the decision on its X account on September 18.

In their statement, they explained that after “careful consideration,” they decided to part ways, stating a film like Kalki requires a higher “commitment” level.

“We officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be part of the upcoming Kalki 2898 AD sequel. After careful deliberation, we have chosen to part ways. Despite the long journey of the first film, a partnership couldn’t be found. A film like Kalki 2898 AD demands that commitment and more. We wish her all the best for her future projects,” the statement said.

This news surprised many fans, as Padukone was a lead in the original, along with Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan.

In May, reports emerged of her replacement in Prabhas’s Spirit by Animal actress Triptii Dimri.

Padukone is now set to collaborate with Allu Arjun in Atlee’s upcoming movie, tentatively called AA22xA6, marking her first project with Arjun and her second with Atlee after 2024’s Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan. ANI
