According to Danish media, authorities in Copenhagen have been collecting an additional fee of 1500 Danish kroner, equivalent to about 235 dollars, mostly from foreigners since 2018. Mia Nyegaard, the Director of the Culture Department in the Municipality of Copenhagen, stated in a press release that the imposition of these illegal fees stopped as soon as it was discovered in the spring of 2025. She also noted that the mechanism for reimbursing the affected individuals has not yet been determined.
