The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has unveiled an enhanced version of the Smart Living Programme, enabling consumers to see if their electricity and water usage is higher or lower than their neighbors’.
“We’ve rolled out Smart Living Programme 1.5. Utilizing data and artificial intelligence, it evaluates your consumption compared to your neighborhood and provides tailored recommendations to help you match their consumption levels. These suggestions are highly personalized to assist in reducing your water or electricity use,” explained Dr. Ali Rashed Bin Ghaith Alsuwaidi, Dewa’s chief innovation officer, to Khaleej Times during Gitex Global 2025 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
He mentioned that customers can access their utility data and neighborhood comparisons by logging into the Dewa app.

To promote awareness and share consumption-reducing tips, Dewa communicates with residents via its app, media, social media, and additional services.
“Regular users of the Dewa app will see a pop-up asking if they’d like tips on reducing consumption. It’s also an engaging learning tool for children through gamification,” he noted.
“Notably, the updated Smart Living Programme will also display the consumer’s carbon footprint,” he added.
At the Gitex five-day global tech event, Dewa is highlighting new technologies with a focus on Agentic AI applications for customers, government, and partners.
Aysha Al Dhuhoori, Dewa’s deputy senior manager for AI, stated that the data won’t reveal the exact utility usage of direct neighbors or similar-sized properties nearby.
She emphasized that Dewa is advancing its AI-powered solutions and detailed analytics to enhance customer understanding of their ecosystem and water usage.
“This empowers customers to monitor usage, boost efficiency, and make informed choices. Dewa is the first in the Middle East to implement such solutions, providing residents with insights into their electricity and water use, personalized advice, and custom plans for efficiency. This aids customers in embracing a more sustainable lifestyle,” she shared during Gitex 2025.
