At the 35th Gotham Film Awards, Leonardo DiCaprio’s action-packed epic One Battle After Another took home the Best Feature award.

The movie is a loose adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel, Vineland, focusing on a group of ex-revolutionaries who reunite after 16 years to face a resurfaced foe.

DiCaprio stars as Bob Ferguson, with Regina Hall co-starring as Deandra.

Written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the film boasts a stellar supporting cast, including Benicio del Toro, Teyana Taylor, and Sean Penn.

Iranian director Jafar Panahi was the evening’s standout winner, achieving a hat trick with awards for international feature, original screenplay, and director for It Was Just an Accident.

The event, hosted by the Gotham Film & Media Institute at Cipriani Wall Street, marked the third year without budget caps for award eligibility. Previously, films couldn’t exceed a $35 million budget for consideration.

Notable past Best Feature winners include Spotlight (2015), Moonlight (2016), and Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), all of which went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars.

Surprises of the night included Julia Loktev’s self-distributed My Undesirable Friends: Part I – Last Air in Moscow and A24’s Pillion, which won Adapted Screenplay for Harry Lighton.

All acting prizes were awarded to performers absent from the ceremony: Sope Dirisu won Best Lead Performance for My Father’s Shadow, Wunmi Mosaku secured Supporting Performance for Sinners, and Abou Sangare received the Breakthrough Performance award for Souleymane’s Story.
