Dubai’s Meydan Racecourse is gearing up for an electrifying evening this Friday, both on the ground and in the skies, as the Cold Moon—the 12th and last full moon of 2025—rises above, offering a unique celestial backdrop to an exhilarating night of horse racing.
At around 5.48pm on December 5, this lunar spectacle will appear directly above the iconic Meydan grandstand, promising a breathtaking view of the horizon that’s rarely witnessed in urban settings. According to the Dubai Racing Club (DRC), this unprecedented event has never coincided with a major horse racing event in the UAE.
A supermoon happens when the moon is at its closest point to Earth while full, making it appear significantly larger and brighter. To commemorate this celestial event, DRC has teamed up with the Dubai Astronomy Group to enhance the experience for racing enthusiasts.
