A Dubai civil court has mandated 10 individuals to jointly return Dh761,448 to an Arab woman after being found guilty of defrauding her through an online investment scam.
Court records indicate that the defendants were previously convicted in a criminal case and fined an amount equivalent to the embezzled funds. This week’s civil verdict underscores that financial crimes entail both criminal and civil consequences, ensuring victims can recover their losses alongside penalties on the perpetrators.
The incident began when the woman reported being deceived into transferring money by a man who approached her via WhatsApp. He convinced her to invest through a trading platform, providing a YouTube video explaining its operations and a link for registration and fund transfer.
