Dubai Eases Boating Licence for Visitors

Dubai has simplified access to its waters for visitors, thanks to a new licensing service introduced by the Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA).

This service, under the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, provides recreational boating licences to individuals already licensed by International Maritime Organisation (IMO) member states, including GCC countries, Europe, the United States, and others. This licence applies to recreational vessels like jet skis and speedboats.

Through this streamlined process, visitors can submit their national licence online for verification. After validation, the DMA issues a local recreational boating licence, enabling leisure, tourism, and sports activities on Dubai’s waters.

The DMA has assured that all internationally recognised licences adhering to the set standards qualify, highlighting Dubai’s dedication to maritime safety and expertise.

This initiative aligns with an updated marine crew licensing manual in Dubai, detailing professional, medical, and technical criteria for boat operation. It covers application, examination, renewal, and licence modification procedures, all available digitally. It also establishes a framework for acknowledging licences from accredited international maritime bodies.

Sheikh Dr Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, CEO of the DMA, stated that this effort showcases Dubai’s dedication to creating a “flexible maritime environment for international visitors to enjoy a safe and outstanding boating experience”.
