On August 1, the Dubai Mallathon kicked off as a month-long fitness event, turning shopping malls into indoor running tracks for three hours each morning. This initiative has now achieved a world record.

The Dubai Mallathon has officially claimed the Guinness World Records title for the Most Runners in a Mall Run Event, as announced on their Instagram page.

The post expressed gratitude to the emirate’s residents for reaching this milestone, “YOU did it! One team, one mission. Together, you’ve set a new world record and made our community proud. Dubai is proud of YOU. Today, your pride is etched in history… A genuine display of your unity, perseverance, and the spirit of our city.”

Launched by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan, the initiative transformed the city’s famous malls into fitness tracks from 7am to 10am daily. Recently, some malls have opened as early as 6am for runners.

Dedicated paths for walking and running were set up in seven major shopping centers — Dubai Mall, Dubai Hills Mall, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Marina Mall, and The Springs Souk.

This sparked great enthusiasm among community members eager for new, climate-controlled spaces for morning exercise.

The innovative initiative provided a unique opportunity for residents to maintain fitness routines during summer, offering air-conditioned environments to escape the region’s intense heat.
