Dubai is set to establish several battery-swapping stations for electric bikes at key locations to speed up the use of sustainable transport and promote e-bike adoption by delivery companies, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) stated on Tuesday.

In partnership with Terra Tech Ltd, a MENA-based B2B micro-mobility tech startup, RTA will launch these battery-swapping stations, specializing in their development.

The collaboration aims to create a comprehensive system to support the delivery industry, enhancing its shift to eco-friendly electric solutions while lowering ownership costs, according to the RTA.

The battery-swapping stations will be positioned at 36 strategic sites throughout Dubai.

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, emphasized that “the initiative supports the Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030, aiming for a 30% reduction in carbon emissions by improving infrastructure at 36 sites to satisfy sector needs and tailor an operational model for delivery firms.”

“We urge our partners in the delivery and commercial sectors to embrace this initiative and collaborate with us towards a more sustainable future,” he added, highlighting “Dubai’s commitment to adopting innovative technologies and practices to cut emissions.”

Husam Al Zammar, CEO of Terra, expressed appreciation for RTA’s trust in their solution for battery-swapping stations and looked forward to enhancing the electric bike delivery network in Dubai.
