Ambassador Mohamed El-Shinawi, the official spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that the Turkish minister conveyed President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s greetings to President Sisi, who appreciated this gesture, as reported by ‘Al-Shorouk’. He emphasized Cairo’s commitment to continuing to strengthen relations between the two countries, noting the qualitative development these relations have witnessed, especially after the signing of the joint declaration in February 2024 to reactivate the high-level strategic cooperation council meetings and elevate them to the level of the two countries’ leaders.
The official spokesperson added that the meeting discussed ways to boost economic cooperation between Egypt and Turkey, aiming to increase the trade exchange volume to $15 billion, as agreed during President Sisi’s visit to Ankara in September 2024, along with exploring the expansion of Turkish companies’ participation in investment projects within Egypt.
The two sides also discussed updates on several regional issues, foremost among them the situation in the Gaza Strip, where both parties affirmed their rejection of the re-militarization of the sector, the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, the entry of humanitarian aid, and the release of hostages and prisoners, while stressing the refusal to displace Palestinians.
The discussions also touched on developments in Libya, Syria, and Sudan, where President Sisi presented Egypt’s vision for achieving peace and stability in those countries, emphasizing the importance of respecting their sovereignty and territorial integrity.
For its part, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, via the platform ‘X’, explained that the talks included an exchange of views on steps to enhance multi-dimensional cooperation between the two countries, and negotiations for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel with Egyptian and Qatari mediation, under U.S. supervision, alongside joint efforts to end what it described as ‘genocide’ against Palestinians and ensure the flow of aid to Gaza.
Turkish diplomatic sources also indicated that Fidan will discuss with the Egyptian side the outcomes of the international conference on Palestine held in New York in late July, in addition to addressing challenges in North and East Africa, particularly in Libya, Sudan, Somalia, and the Sahel region, and the role of both countries in supporting security and stability in the region.
