Egypt and Turkey Strengthen Ties on Regional Issues

During a press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty during his visit to Cairo, he stated, “The relations between Egypt and Turkey have reached an advanced stage in many fields, and there is a convergence of views on regional issues.” He continued, “We have developed a joint strategy with Egypt to solve regional problems.” Fidan pointed out that Egypt and Turkey reject the “scenarios of occupying the Gaza Strip” approved by the Israeli cabinet, considering them a “plan towards genocide.” He praised Egypt’s pivotal role in alleviating the humanitarian crisis in the sector. The Turkish Foreign Minister also noted the ongoing coordination with Egypt to achieve unity in Libya and the pursuit of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, and he called for an end to the ongoing clashes in Sudan.

For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty, during a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart in Cairo, affirmed that the discussions between the two sides were “positive and fruitful,” emphasizing that the clarity of political will is enough to open all doors between Egypt and Turkey, with expectations of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visiting Egypt next year. He explained that discussions were held with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan regarding the Syrian crisis and the necessity of reaching a comprehensive settlement without excluding any party, and discussing the situation in Somalia and ways to protect it from the dangers of division, in addition to freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

He also called for speeding up the presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya and the withdrawal of militias. Abdel Aty reaffirmed that Cairo and Ankara call for a ceasefire in Sudan and engagement in dialogue to protect the state, reiterating Egypt’s rejection of the Israeli decision to occupy Gaza.
