A statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the necessity for all countries in the region, without exception, to join the treaty and subject all their nuclear facilities to the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency through comprehensive safeguard agreements. The statement stressed that this path ensures transparency and prevents the application of double standards regionally, contributing to the alleviation of regional tension.

Egypt also reiterated the utmost importance of making the Middle East a nuclear weapon-free zone, indicating that this goal is a fundamental step to ensure regional and international security and stability, and it contributes to halting the arms race that threatens international peace and security.

The statement highlighted support for these efforts since the launch of the initiative to establish a nuclear-weapon-free zone under the United Nations framework in 1974, reflecting a steadfast commitment and strategic vision to protect the people of the region from the dangers of nuclear proliferation.

Egypt expressed deep concern about the danger posed by the continued existence of nuclear weapons, calling on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities to ensure the full implementation of nuclear disarmament commitments under the treaty. The statement concluded by affirming that the decision from the 1995 treaty review conference regarding the establishment of a weapons of mass destruction-free zone in the Middle East represents a clear international commitment, and its implementation is an integral part of the 1995 treaty extension deal and the preservation of the credibility of the entire non-proliferation regime.
