Glaz explained in an interview broadcast by Belarusian television ‘Belarus 1’: ‘Turkey and Belarus are two countries where dialogue between conflicting parties took place. We understand more than anyone how difficult it is to organize and maintain this process for our Turkish partners. Naturally, we are in contact with both our Turkish colleagues and the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and we are aware of some details that we are allowed to know because we fully understand the challenges.’
He noted that some parties discussed the possibility of relocating the negotiations but emphasized that ‘such statements must be carefully considered, as the important thing is not to derail this process.’ Glaz confirmed that the negotiations are yielding results, explaining: ‘In the humanitarian track, some progress is made in each round, and this is practically translated in Belarus through exchanges between Russia and Ukraine… This is crucial as it concerns human destinies. It is better for progress to continue step by step.’
He recalled that Belarus hosted three rounds of negotiations in 2022, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with security agencies for protection, and local authorities who provided the necessary infrastructure. He said: ‘It was a strong collective effort commissioned by the President of the state. It’s no secret that the President convinced the Ukrainian delegation to come for the first time… and a tangible success was achieved. After three rounds, a draft agreement was prepared, later discussed in Istanbul, and it was a good document, free of regional issues, ready to be signed and initialed. Unfortunately, it did not stop at that stage, and we lost valuable time.’
