The Central Bank of Egypt revealed that foreign currency reserves increased by $214 million in August 2025, reaching $49.25 billion, compared to $49.036 billion at the end of July. It is noteworthy that Egypt’s foreign currency reserves consist of a basket of major international currencies, including the US dollar, the euro, the British pound, the Japanese yen, and the Chinese yuan. The foreign reserves, comprising gold and international currencies, play a crucial role in providing strategic goods, repaying external debts and their interest, as well as confronting sudden economic crises. Some foreign currency-generating resources may be affected by disruptions, such as exports, tourism, and investments. Meanwhile, remittances from Egyptians abroad, which have reached record levels, along with the stable revenues from the Suez Canal, contribute to supporting the reserves during certain periods.
