Trump’s Role in Gaza Peace Efforts

The Egyptian presidency explained that this is “in appreciation of Trump’s contributions to supporting peace efforts and his endeavors to defuse conflicts, especially his prominent role in reaching a ceasefire in Gaza.” This coincides with the hosting of a peace summit in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh today, Monday, aimed at ending the war in the Gaza Strip, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and American President Donald Trump, with the participation of leaders from more than 20 countries, as announced by the Egyptian presidency.

The first phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip came into effect last Friday afternoon, following indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel, which were hosted in the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh last week, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey, based on a proposal by American President Donald Trump to end the war in Gaza. Hamas and Israel signed arrangements for this first phase.

Hamas announced the withdrawal of the occupation, the entry of aid, and the exchange of prisoners, calling on the guaranteeing parties to obligate the Israeli government to fully implement the agreement’s commitments. For its part, the Israeli army confirmed last Friday that its forces have positioned themselves along the new operational deployment lines towards the yellow line as part of the first phase of the agreement, while maintaining control over approximately 53 percent of the Gaza Strip.

On September 29, Trump revealed during a press conference at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a plan to end the ongoing war of about two years between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
