Emirati women are now invited to apply for the seventh edition of Shabat Fakhr, a one-day military training program aimed at enhancing national identity and leadership skills. The training is scheduled for November 2025, with applications closing on October 1.

Named “Women of Pride,” this initiative is organized by the Federal Youth Authority in collaboration with the UAE National Service & Reserve Authority and Khawla bint Al Azwar Military School, the first women’s military academy in the Gulf, founded in 1990.

Targeting Emirati women aged 18 to 35, Shabat Fakhr offers a taste of military life through team-building activities, leadership exercises, and decision-making challenges within a training setting.

Since its debut in 2022, over 490 Emirati women have participated in its six cycles. Officials highlight that the program has enhanced practical skills and nurtured national consciousness among attendees.

“This marks the seventh cycle, and we take pride in seeing Emirati women eagerly seizing this opportunity,” a National Service & Reserve Authority official shared with Khaleej Times. “Their involvement signifies pride, responsibility, and a dedication to national service.”

The program draws inspiration from UAE Federal Law No. 6 of 2014, which mandates national service for Emirati men aged 18 to 30, while female participation remains voluntary. Shabat Fakhr provides women with structured military training and civic engagement opportunities beyond obligatory frameworks.

“Our goal is to instill values of discipline, resilience, and national identity,” an official stated, further noting, “Shabat Fakhr empowers young Emirati women to embody service and leadership principles across various sectors.”

The course aligns with the UAE’s National Youth Agenda 2031, emphasizing youth empowerment and active citizenship. It includes drills and exercises that enhance teamwork and decision-making capabilities, applicable in education, careers, and community roles.

Activities are conducted at Khawla bint Al Azwar Military School, a pioneer in women’s military education in the UAE since 1990, bolstering female participation in defense and security.

Registration for the November cycle of Shabat Fakhr is open via the Emirates Youth Authority’s official platform until October 1, 2025.
