Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines have initiated a codeshare collaboration and formed a mutual loyalty agreement. This agreement was formalized during an event in Hong Kong, aligning with Etihad’s first flight from Abu Dhabi to Hong Kong International Airport.
Flights operated by Hong Kong Airlines between Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi can now be booked as Etihad ‘EY’ services. Meanwhile, travelers can fly to Japanese cities such as Fukuoka, Hokkaido-Sapporo, Osaka, and Okinawa on Hong Kong Airlines flights using the ‘HX’ code.
This offers a seamless travel experience with a single ticket, one-time check-in, and automatic baggage transfer. Abu Dhabi becomes a convenient hub connecting Greater China and Japan with the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.

Upon launch, members of Hong Kong Airlines’ Fortune Wings Club and Etihad Guest will benefit from reciprocal earning and redemption across both networks. This complements Etihad’s existing partnership with Hainan Airlines, allowing Fortune Wings Club members to earn and redeem on Etihad’s new Hong Kong route. This enhancement positions Etihad Guest as the leading non-alliance loyalty program with the largest airline partner network globally.
Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, remarked, “This partnership offers substantial value to Etihad Guest members through comprehensive earn-and-redeem capabilities across Hong Kong Airlines’ network, boosted by codeshare links to popular Japanese destinations. It highlights our dedication to offering our loyal customers more flexibility, expanded reach, and superior rewards.”
Louis Li, Executive Vice President of Hong Kong Airlines, commented, “This partnership marks a significant milestone in Hong Kong Airlines’ re-entry into the international market. Expanding our codeshare and launching a reciprocal loyalty program not only benefits passengers from both airlines but also lays the groundwork for enhanced commercial collaboration.”
He noted that the partnership with Etihad Airways, established in 2014, remains robust and will enhance trade, tourism, and connectivity between Hong Kong and the Middle East, providing increased convenience and value for travelers.
