Deira’s traditional markets have transformed into a heritage attraction with three new tourist trails covering nearly 1.8km. This Dh9.5 million initiative preserves the historic allure of the markets, providing an engaging journey through Dubai’s culture, shopping, and history.
The route links key sites like the Gold Souq, Al Ahmadiya School, Spice Souq, and seven other traditional markets, featuring restored facades, improved pavements, new seating spaces, and shaded walkways.
To retain the markets’ heritage charm, authentic materials like sarooj (lime-based plaster) were utilized.
Bader Anwahi, CEO of Dubai Municipality’s Public Facilities Agency, stated: “Deira’s markets are central to Dubai’s cultural identity. This project honors that heritage while offering a vibrant, modern visitor experience — blending history, culture, and commerce.”
