Under the intense sun and with shops still closed, curious individuals wandered around the area of the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls, which was recently just a parking lot. Although the winter crowds were absent, a few visitors were still present, overseen by the towering Hajar mountains.
Khaleej Times explored the site that will unveil 14 new commercial and investment opportunities for Emiratis in Hatta, as announced on Sunday. The objective is straightforward: empower Hatta Emiratis by granting them priority access to new retail spaces, employment, and opportunities to expand small businesses in one of the UAE’s most picturesque locations.
Surrounded by Mountains
The Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls provide a breathtaking view, encircled by the majestic Hajar mountains, one of the largest mountain ranges in the region, spanning the UAE and Oman. From the vantage points, you can admire the lively area on one side and the stunning jagged peaks with the radiant turquoise waters of the Hatta dam on the other.

A Water Tribute
A grand mural featuring Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum overlooks the property, with a continuous flow of water cascading down. The water runs along the property from the Hatta Hydroelectric Plant. It’s the largest mural of its kind globally, and alongside the waterfalls, it links the project to both heritage and sustainability.
Hatta’s New Attraction
Buildings line the area, soon to house restaurants and shops. The area is accessible to the public, but the shops, as indicated by the signs, will open soon. These venues are part of the 14 new investment opportunities prioritized for Hatta residents, enabling them to operate cafés, restaurants, kiosks, and small businesses that showcase local culture and boost tourism.
Connecting Bridges
Two bridges connect the two sides of the area, with water rushing beneath from the waterfalls. These bridges link not only the two banks but also the new development with the surrounding natural scenery.
A Forward-Looking Vision
The Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project, set against the Hajar mountains, aligns with Dubai’s broader economic and social goals, including the Dubai Social Agenda 33 and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, both aiming to place Dubai among the top three global cities for tourism while ensuring development directly benefits local communities.
