According to local sources, the flash was from an explosion at an industrial complex on the outskirts of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, on Friday evening. Over 200 people have already been evacuated, and dozens were injured, as reported by local media, with flames reaching about 20 meters high.
The thick smoke rising from the fire site caused reduced visibility in the area, leading to delays or diversions of several flights that were headed to land at Ministro Pistarini International Airport, the main airport in Argentina.
The causes of the explosions remain unknown. However, authorities speculate that the fire started in one of the factories affected by the flames. According to local media, Gastón Granados, the mayor of Ezeiza, where the incident occurred, said that one factory involved chemicals and another dealt with plastics.
A large team of firefighters fought the blaze to contain it. Fabian Garcia, the local fire chief, stated that it is a “complex fire. It will last for a long time.”
