Fire on MSC Container Ship ‘Bomba’ Near Hamad Platform

The Ministry stated in a release: ‘On the evening of Monday, July 29, 2025, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources received a notification from the marine monitoring room in Gharib, indicating a distress signal from the container ship ‘Bomba’ owned by MSC Shipping Company. This occurred following a fire outbreak in the ship’s engine room while it was in the navigation channel, about three nautical miles from the Southeast Hamad platform belonging to the General Petroleum Company.’ The Egyptian ministry added that ‘immediately upon receiving the report, urgent coordination was conducted with the concerned authorities, and several specialized marine units from the petroleum sector companies were dispatched to participate in firefighting and rescue operations.’ The statement concluded by saying that ‘although the ship does not belong to the petroleum sector companies, the intervention was made within the framework of the sector’s commitment to its national and professional responsibility in supporting efforts and providing the necessary technical and logistical support to preserve the safety of lives, the navigation channel, and the marine environment.’
