The Sudanese newspaper ‘Al-Mashhad’ reported today, Monday, that the governors of the five states decided, during their meeting with Tambour, to ‘form a unified combat force to participate in operations advancing towards the city of El Fasher.’
The governors of the five states agreed on the urgent need for coordination to protect civilians and provide sufficient support to address the food shortage crisis.
The Darfur region consists of five states: West Darfur, East Darfur, Central Darfur, South Darfur, and North Darfur, with El Fasher as its capital. The city of El Fasher is suffering from a severe humanitarian crisis due to the lack of essential food supplies, especially in the Abu Shouk camp for displaced persons, caused by the absence of food supplies in local markets. This crisis has worsened with the ongoing siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces on the city for about a year.
Arab, African, and international parties have mediated to cease fire, but these mediations have failed to achieve a permanent cessation of hostilities.
