Guterres stated that “the world should not fear Israeli reactions to the recognition of a Palestinian state,” emphasizing the necessity of not fearing retaliatory actions, as these measures will continue regardless of our actions. He added that “at least there is an opportunity to rally the international community to exert pressure to prevent this.” He described the situation in Gaza as the worst he has witnessed since taking office, and perhaps in his entire life.
The Israeli army announced last Tuesday that it began advancing towards Gaza City to liberate Israeli hostages, according to their statement. Last Monday night, Gaza City witnessed the most violent Israeli attacks, as Israel launched an intensive assault on the city in preparation for a ground operation there.
According to local media, the daily Israeli raids continue as usual, targeting towers and residential buildings in Gaza City.
