At least 4 people have died, while dozens remain trapped in the Indian village of Dharali after a massive wave of water from a mountain engulfed the village and swallowed buildings. Local television channels broadcast videos of floodwaters crashing into a mountainous village in the Himalayas, as terrified residents screamed for their lives.
This comes as homes were submerged, roads swept away, and the local market destroyed, with the sudden surge of water not giving people time to escape. Meanwhile, the Indian National Disaster Management Authority requested the federal government to provide three helicopters to assist in rescue and relief operations, as rescuers face difficulty reaching the remote area.
Several teams from the disaster response forces are present in the area, working to rescue people trapped under the rubble and mud.
