French media reported that these developments come as French security authorities announced intensive security measures. The Ministry of the Interior stated that around 80,000 police and security personnel would be deployed on Wednesday across the country, which will witness the organization of hundreds of events and protests.
Rotayo explained during a press conference at ten o’clock that the arrest of about 200 individuals across France occurred during “barrier removal operations” linked to the “Let’s Close Everything” movement.
Paris police reported that 132 people were arrested in the Greater Paris area, while the resigned minister and chairman of the Republicans (LR) party once again accused the “far-left current” of attempting to “seize this mobilization,” which started on social networks.
It is noted that French President Emmanuel Macron appointed French Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu as Prime Minister on Tuesday, succeeding François Bayrou, who resigned after the parliament withdrew confidence from his government.
A statement issued by the Élysée Palace stated: “The President of the Republic [Emmanuel Macron] has appointed Mr. Sébastien Lecornu as Prime Minister and tasked him with consulting with the political forces represented in parliament to approve the state budget and build essential agreements for the coming months’ decisions.”
It added: “After these discussions, it will be the responsibility of the new Prime Minister [Sébastien Lecornu] to propose a government to the President of the Republic.”
Earlier on Tuesday, François Bayrou submitted his government’s resignation to French President Emmanuel Macron, after the parliament withdrew confidence from it last Monday with a majority of 376 votes.
