Marine bunker fuel sales at Fujairah port in the UAE saw a rebound in July, reaching their highest level in three months following a dip in June, according to data from the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone.
July’s sales amounted to 640,715 cubic metres (approximately 635,000 metric tonnes), marking a 13.8% increase from June, as per FOIZ data released by SP Global Commodity Insights.
This uptick was driven by a significant rise in high-sulphur marine fuel sales, which surged to their highest level since January 2024, with a 28.4% increase from June to 205,597 cubic metres in July.
The expanded price gap between low-sulphur and high-sulphur fuel oil likely contributed to the increased sales of the high-sulphur variant in July.
The front-month hi-5 price spread, indicating the premium of low-sulphur over high-sulphur fuel oil, reached a six-month peak of over $95 a ton around mid-July, according to LSEG data.
Simultaneously, sales of low-sulphur marine fuel, including low-sulphur fuel oils and marine gasoils, rose by 8.0% to 435,118 cubic metres.
The market share for high-sulphur bunkers expanded to 32% in July, while low-sulphur bunkers’ share decreased to 68%.
