In a special statement to the agency on the sidelines of the ‘Russian Energy Week’ forum, Szijjártó said: “Certainly, there is no doubt about this at all,” in response to a question about whether Budapest would ensure protection for Putin if he participated in negotiations on its territory. The Hungarian minister added that “President Putin can always discuss current issues with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán if there is a need for that,” pointing to the robustness of communication channels between the two countries despite existing tensions in Europe.
Earlier, the Hungarian Foreign Minister confirmed that Hungary is ready to provide “any place” on its territory for negotiations between representatives of Russia and Ukraine to resolve the crisis. Szijjártó stated: Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited Moscow with an accompanying delegation on July 5 of last year and held a meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin. Orbán described the visit to Moscow as the next stage as of July 2.
