During a press conference in Cairo with Slovenia’s Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon, Abdel Aaty stated that the Sharm El-Sheikh negotiations are discussing the establishment of a security mechanism to ensure the complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. He added that the negotiations also focus on the full and unconditional entry of aid through UN channels.
He continued, “The negotiations aim to solidify a just peace path based on the two-state solution and complete unity between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip,” reaffirming Egypt’s welcome of Trump’s plan regarding Gaza. Egypt, Qatar, and the United States are mediating to end the war in Gaza, which will mark its second anniversary tomorrow, leaving enormous human and material losses.
On October 3, Hamas announced its approval of U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal concerning the Gaza Strip, confirming the release of all detainees, both alive and deceased, according to the exchange formula, and handing over the sector’s administration to an independent Palestinian authority (technocrat) in line with national consensus and Arab and Islamic support.
The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt welcomed the steps taken by Hamas in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal aimed at ending the war on Gaza, releasing all detainees alive and dead, ceasing fire, and starting negotiations immediately to agree on implementation mechanisms.
Hamas stated in a statement that they are ready to “enter negotiations through mediators to discuss the details of the exchange process,” affirming that “issues related to the future of Gaza and the rights of the Palestinian people will be discussed within a comprehensive national framework with the full responsibility of Hamas.”
Trump, accompanied by his special envoy Steve Witkoff, presented a new plan aimed at Gaza, outlining the governance features after “defeating” Hamas during a meeting with Arab and Islamic leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings. Observers indicate that the plan is based on ideas discussed over the past months, with updates developed by Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Since October 7, 2023, the war on Gaza has resulted in the death of over 67,000 Palestinians and more than 169,000 injured, according to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza.
