GEMS, a leading school group in the UAE, has welcomed over 1,700 new teachers from various countries for the new academic year. Schools nationwide will reopen on Monday, August 25.

Receiving over 600,000 applications annually for around 2,000 positions, this UAE-based school group is one of the most desirable education employers globally.

During the annual GEMS Awareness Day at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai, Chairman and Founder Sunny Varkey stated, “We are not just expanding or improving but reimagining education for a new generation.”

He emphasized that while technology and AI will change learning methods, the teacher-student human connection is irreplaceable.

“No machine is programmed to instill values and success mindsets in our children. No code can replace warmth and encouragement. And no AI, regardless of advancement, will believe in you like a teacher does. This is the power of human connection.”

During the annual induction program, Dino Varkey, CEO, said, “Teachers have always been the backbone of GEMS Education. We go to great lengths each year to recruit the best educators who share our vision for excellence and creativity. GEMS Awareness Day celebrates this culture, attracts top educators, and reinforces excellence across our network.”

Sunny Varkey also stressed the importance of family in education, highlighting GEMS’ BEYOND100, Determined Genius, Family First Café, and Parent 360 programs as initiatives that promote character, wellbeing, and lifelong success habits.

“Our work is more than a job or a mission; it is a promise to always prioritize children. No exceptions,” Varkey added.

In 2025, notably, 250 students were admitted to a Global Top 50 institution, and 353 to Russell Group universities, with seven GEMS students joining Ivy League universities this year.

Lisa Crausby OBE, Chief Education Officer, concluded by highlighting teachers’ roles in realizing visions, “I am thrilled to welcome this year’s talented teachers to our GEMS family. Their calibre, experience, and passion make a real difference in our classrooms. With innovation central to our work, I am confident we will continue achieving exceptional outcomes for every child in every GEMS school.”
