On July 27, Von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump reached a trade agreement that subjects most European Union exports to the United States to a 15% tariff. The agreement does not include the removal of the US tariffs of 50% on steel and aluminum, but they could be reduced as a result of further negotiations, according to the New York Times, citing a senior US official. The European Union also committed to purchasing $750 billion worth of American energy products.
