The National Media Agency reported that the weapons were transferred to the army barracks in the Qubba area of Tripoli with security escorts, under the supervision of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee, the Palestinian Embassy in Lebanon, and the Palestinian National Security leadership. This took place amid extensive security deployment by Lebanese army personnel since last night at the entrances and surroundings of the camp.
The Lebanese army continues to receive weapons from Palestinian factions in the capital, Beirut, as part of an agreement reached earlier between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas. The process of collecting weapons from the camps began late last month and is limited to the Palestinian Fatah movement, supervised by the Palestinian National Security.
The Lebanese army released a statement on its official “X” platform account, stating that “a quantity of Palestinian weapons was received in the South Litani area, including the Rashidieh, Buss, and Burj Al-Shamali camps, in coordination with the concerned Palestinian authorities.” It noted that “the handover process included various types of weapons, shells, and assorted military ammunition.”
It is worth noting that the handover of weapons comes in implementation of the resolutions of the Lebanese-Palestinian summit, dated May 21, between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas, which affirmed Lebanon’s sovereignty over its entire territory, the extension of state authority, and the application of the principle of ‘exclusive weapons’.
