Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has decided not to participate in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions in Abu Dhabi, marking the end of his 13-year involvement in the prestigious T20 tournament.
Last season, the dynamic batsman was acquired by Punjab Kings for 42 million rupees ($467,000), but he managed only 48 runs and took four wickets over seven matches, leading to his release by the team in November.
Maxwell, a participant in the IPL since 2012, acknowledged the league’s significant impact on his cricket career.
“This is a major decision, and I make it with immense gratitude for everything the league has offered me,” the 37-year-old shared in an Instagram statement.
“The IPL has been instrumental in my development as a cricketer and a person. I’ve had the privilege to play alongside world-class teammates, represent amazing franchises, and perform in front of passionate fans.
“The unforgettable memories, challenges, and vibrant energy of India will always remain with me.”
Last week, Faf du Plessis and Andre Russell also announced their withdrawal from the IPL 2026. The former South African captain opted to join the Pakistan Super League, while the ex-West Indies all-rounder took a role with Kolkata Knight Riders’ coaching staff.
The IPL 2026 auctions are scheduled for December 16.
