These expectations come as global leaders gather in Brazil to attend the climate summit at the COP 30 conference to address the accelerating impacts of climate change, according to Sky News.

According to the annual State of the Climate report from the World Meteorological Organization, the past eleven years, from 2015 to 2025, have been among the hottest on record, and notably, the past three years have been the hottest ever, reflecting an unprecedented series of exceptional global temperatures.

The head of the World Meteorological Organization confirmed that although maintaining the 1.5-degree Celsius goal has become increasingly difficult and avoiding a temporary overshoot is “almost impossible,” it remains “entirely possible and absolutely necessary” to lower global temperatures and achieve the long-term target.

She noted that “this goal is not just a number,” but a “critical lifeline,” especially for vulnerable Pacific communities and countries facing existential threats from rising sea levels and extreme weather events.

The World Meteorological Organization emphasized that despite the worrying data, decisive international cooperation and strong climate policies remain essential to “curb” rising temperatures. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged participating countries to reach a comprehensive agreement to provide $1.3 trillion annually by 2035 to support efforts to combat climate change in developing countries.
