In a recent media interview, Musk considered that the worst invention recently is “short videos,” pointing out that they have led to “corrupting human minds” and “decaying” thinking, as he described. Musk’s statements come at a time when several countries are moving to impose restrictions on the use of social media, most notably Australia, which has officially banned those under 16 from using these platforms. The “X” platform, owned by Musk, announced its commitment to the Australian decision, confirming that implementing the ban is not an option but a legal obligation, making it the last among ten platforms to clarify the mechanism for enforcing the ban. Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadhil, also announced that Kuala Lumpur will ban users under 16 from registering on social media platforms starting from 2026, adding that social media platforms will be required to ensure proper age verification. The Malaysian “Straits Times” quoted Fadhil on Sunday as saying, “We expect all platform providers to be ready to implement the electronic identity verification system (eKYC) by next year.” In addition to implementing the age verification system, the Malaysian government will also consult with platforms and the public in the coming months about the details of establishing a compliance monitoring mechanism.
