Green Tea Risks During Pregnancy and Beyond

The new study indicated that excessive consumption of green tea during pregnancy and breastfeeding may lead to miscarriage or hinder the normal growth of the fetus due to its high caffeine content. According to the new study published by ‘The Health’ website, there are six categories of people who should be aware of the dangers of consuming green tea, as follows: People with health issues such as irritable bowel syndrome or diarrhea may experience worsened symptoms after drinking green tea. Experts also warn that concentrated extracts may increase eye pressure in glaucoma patients and exacerbate liver diseases. Green tea should not be given to children due to its high caffeine content, which may overly stimulate their nervous systems and hinder the absorption of essential nutrients like proteins and fats. Those with caffeine sensitivity should avoid it, as even small amounts can cause rapid heartbeats, irritability, or tremors. People with anemia or iron deficiency should avoid it because it hinders the body’s absorption of non-heme iron (the type found in plant foods). Excessive consumption of green tea during pregnancy and breastfeeding can lead to miscarriage or hinder the fetus’s normal growth due to the high caffeine content. The natural tannin compound found in green tea increases stomach acid secretion, which may cause bloating, discomfort, and constipation; thus, it is advised that those with stomach sensitivity avoid it. The new study concluded that although green tea is well-known for its numerous health benefits, it is unsuitable for certain categories of people and should be avoided to maintain their health.
