French newspapers clarified that the incident dates back to February 25, 2023, when a 24-year-old woman accused Hakimi of sexually assaulting her at his home in the Boulogne-Billancourt area after a month-long interaction between them via Instagram. Reports state that he used the Uber service to transport her to his home, where, according to her account, she was harassed and assaulted despite her opposition. She also claimed to have sent a distress message to her friend, which the latter later confirmed to the police.
On March 3, 2023, Hakimi was officially charged with rape and placed under judicial supervision after the victim presented evidence, including text messages and other information, to support her claims. The investigating judge is expected to soon decide on referring the player to trial, which could result in a sentence of up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
For his part, the Moroccan player denied all the charges against him, asserting in his statements during investigations that he is a ‘victim of an extortion attempt.’ His defense team pursued legal proceedings, while the French and international public closely follow the legal developments of this case, which engages the sports and media circles. It is noteworthy that Hakimi is one of the prominent players of the Moroccan national team that achieved the milestone of reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup and is considered an essential element in the Paris Saint-Germain lineup.
