Happiness Linked to Lower Mortality Rates

The study, which included data from 123 countries, showed a direct correlation between happiness levels and reduced mortality rates from non-communicable diseases, which account for about 75% of global deaths, according to Medical Express. Professor Yulia Yoga from Alba Iulia University explained that happiness is not just a psychological state but a measurable health indicator. She emphasized that the findings redefine health to include emotional well-being alongside physical factors.

The study identified a threshold at 2.7 on the happiness scale (from zero to ten), where health benefits begin to appear significantly. Researchers believe these discoveries call for a shift in health policies, as governments can enhance the health of their citizens by improving the quality of life. This can be achieved through measures such as improving air quality, supporting obesity prevention programs, reducing alcohol consumption, and increasing spending on healthcare.

Thus, happiness goes beyond being a transient luxury to becoming a natural remedy that science proves as a key to a longer and healthier life.
