The media relations in Hezbollah published a statement on their official social media page on Thursday evening, denying the accusations made by the Syrian Ministry of Interior regarding the affiliation of Hezbollah members who were arrested in the western countryside of Damascus, Syria. They reiterated their previous statement that Hezbollah has no presence and does not engage in any activities on Syrian soil and is keen on Syria’s stability and the security of its people.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced in a statement on Thursday that the internal security forces in the Damascus countryside, in cooperation with the General Intelligence Service, successfully dismantled a “terrorist” cell affiliated with Hezbollah that was active in the towns of Saasaa and Kanaker in the western countryside of Damascus. Brigadier General Ahmad Al-Dalati, the head of internal security in the province, explained that the operation was the result of careful monitoring and intensive fieldwork. Initial investigations revealed that the cell members received training in camps within Lebanese territory and were planning operations aimed at disturbing the security and stability of citizens.
During the operation, security units managed to seize rocket launch pads, 19 “Grad” rockets, anti-tank missiles, individual weapons, and large quantities of various ammunition. The statement indicated that the file has been referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete legal procedures, while security agencies continue to investigate the detainees to uncover all connections and objectives related to the cell.
An explosive device had detonated in a car at the entrance of the “Mezzeh 86” neighborhood in the Syrian capital last Wednesday, with the sound of the explosion heard throughout the city. Local sources told “Sputnik” that there have been no reports of injuries from the explosion so far. Meanwhile, the Syrian news agency “SANA” said that the nature of the incident is being verified.
Brigadier General Osama Muhammad Khair Atika, the head of internal security in Damascus province, stated: “The explosion that occurred in the Mezzeh 86 area resulted from an explosive device that targeted someone. Our units responded immediately by cordoning off and fully securing the site, with no human casualties recorded.” He added that “the competent authorities have initiated an urgent investigation to determine the party responsible for this terrorist act.”
