Fleming added in a speech followed by ‘Sputnik’: ‘I was inspired by the forum’s founder, Noha Al Nahhas, and her enthusiastic young team, whom I had the honor of meeting, to witness their commitment to ethical communication, training a new generation of journalists, and international cooperation, including with the United Nations, which brought us all here.’

She continued, ‘It is wonderful to be among the people who make the media industry thrive, from executives and journalists to policymakers and influencers, from across the region and the world. I am here with you from New York City. Together, we can commit to supporting the highest standards of professionalism, creativity, and impact, as the media serves the truth, where media is responsible, and where media serves humanity.’

She added, ‘All of this challenges viewers to ask: What is real? All of this forces facts to compete with lies for attention. There was a study conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that said lies travel six times faster than truths on social media. At the United Nations, we have observed this trend for a long time and warned of the damage this toxic information ecosystem causes in our digital world. What we see is the spread of hatred, violence, and discrimination, and we see an undermining of peace, climate action, and public health.’

The Egypt Media Forum, held over the two days of November 8 and 9, is one of the prominent media events in the Middle East. It brings together media experts, content creators, and media leaders to explore the latest developments in the industry and discuss the future of the profession amid technological transformations.

The forum’s events feature diverse activities, showcasing media and technological experiences from various countries worldwide, with the participation of influential international figures and a selection of media icons from Egypt and the Arab world. The ‘Sputnik’ agency participates with a media delegation at the forum, where the acting director of ‘Sputnik Arabic’, Karina Mahna, delivers a speech on the uses of artificial intelligence in media work and reviews the agency’s experiences in employing modern technologies in news production.
