Historic Peace Agreement Signed for Gaza

This came according to a joint statement issued by the White House and signed by the leaders of the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey. Washington – Sputnik. The text of the document stated, “We recognize that sustainable peace will be achieved when both Palestinians and Israelis can prosper, with their basic human rights protected.” It added, “We recognize that the Middle East cannot continue a cycle of prolonged wars, stalled negotiations, or fragmented, incomplete, or selective implementation of successful negotiation terms.” It emphasized, “The tragedies of the past two years should remind us that future generations deserve better than the failures of the past.”

Today, Monday, the “Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit” was held in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm El Sheikh, co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his American counterpart Donald Trump, aiming to stabilize the ceasefire and reach a comprehensive agreement to end the war in Gaza. U.S. President Donald Trump, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani signed a comprehensive document on ending the war in the Gaza Strip during the summit, attended by more than 30 high-level representatives from around the world.

During the summit, the Egyptian President emphasized that “we have a unique, perhaps last, historic opportunity to achieve a Middle East free of all that threatens its stability and progress… a Middle East where all its peoples enjoy peace and decent living within secure borders, with protected rights… a Middle East resilient against terrorism and extremism.” Trump described the agreement as “historic,” congratulating the attendees by saying “Finally, we have peace in the Middle East,” and expressing gratitude to all Arab and Islamic countries that worked towards this agreement.

The first stage of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip came into effect last Friday afternoon, concluded from indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel hosted by the Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh last week, with mediation from Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey, based on a proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war in Gaza. Hamas and Israel signed arrangements for its first phase.

Trump had announced on September 29th during a press conference at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a plan to end the ongoing war for about two years between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Russia has repeatedly expressed its support for efforts to reach an agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip and exchange prisoners, affirming its steadfast position supporting the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through dialogue and negotiations based on the two-state solution, ensuring the establishment of an independent sovereign Palestinian state and preserving the legitimate rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.
