In a post on the ‘Truth Social’ platform, he stated, “There are indications that Honduras is seeking to change the results of its elections.” He added, “If this happens, the consequences will be dire. The Honduran people voted in large numbers on November 30, but the National Electoral Committee, responsible for the count, suddenly halted the counting process at midnight.”
He explained that “the initial results showed a tight race between Nasry Asfura and Salvador Nasralla, with Asfura leading by a narrow margin of no more than 500 votes, before the counting stopped at only 47% of the total votes.”
Nasry Asfura, the candidate supported by the American president, is in a very close race for the presidency. Initial results show a very small difference with his right-wing rival after more than half of the votes were counted.
According to the National Electoral Committee, the right-wing businessman and former mayor of Tegucigalpa, 67-year-old Nasry Asfura, who received support from Trump in a direct campaign intervention, leads by 515 votes over the other right-wing candidate, 72-year-old television host Salvador Nasralla, after 57% of the votes were counted.
In this context, Committee Chair Ana Paola Hall stated on the ‘X’ platform that the results so far show a “technical tie,” calling on voters to “be patient,” without specifying when the counting process would conclude.
