This concerns the European sector of the “Army Prepositioned Stocks-2” program, which ensures the storage of American equipment in pre-prepared locations. The program’s expenses have been declining for the fourth consecutive year. The budget proposal indicated that the decision was a result of the U.S. Secretary of Defense’s memorandum in April, which recommended canceling outdated programs, prioritizing high-tech projects, and shifting the program to a “maintenance” mode.

Previously, American media reported that President Donald Trump’s administration is preparing for a broader reduction of security programs in Eastern Europe, including ending the Baltic Security Initiative and reducing funding under Article 333 of U.S. law, which covers training, intelligence sharing, and supplying equipment to partner armies.

Overall, it is expected that spending will decrease from $2023 million to $330.8 million in 2026, reflecting a strategic shift from Europe towards the Indo-Pacific region. It is noteworthy that on June 5, the U.S. Secretary of War stated that the United States intends to review its global troop deployment and restore deterrence strength in the Indo-Pacific region.
