In a post on the ‘Truth Social’ platform, he said, ‘There are indications that Honduras is seeking to alter the results of its elections.’ He added, ‘If this happens, the consequences will be dire. The Honduran people voted in large numbers on November 30, but the National Electoral Commission – the body responsible for counting – suddenly halted the counting process at midnight.’
He explained that ‘the preliminary results showed a tight race between Nasry Asfura and Salvador Nasralla, with Asfura leading by a narrow margin of no more than 500 votes before the count stopped at only 47% of the total votes.’
Nasry Asfura, the candidate supported by the American president, is in a very close race for the presidency, as preliminary results showed a very slight difference with his right-wing rival after more than half of the votes were counted.
According to the National Electoral Commission, the right-wing businessman and former mayor of Tegucigalpa, 67-year-old Nasry Asfura, who received direct campaign support from Trump, leads by 515 votes over the other right-wing candidate, 72-year-old TV presenter Salvador Nasralla, after 57% of the votes were counted.
In this context, the head of the commission, Ana Paola Hall, said on the platform ‘X’ that the results so far show a ‘technical tie,’ urging voters to ‘be patient,’ without specifying a date for the completion of the counting process.
